Commissioner Robert Steele
2nd District, Cook County, Illinois
Welcome
Thank you for visiting my website. It is an honor and a privilege to serve the residents of the second district as Commissioner of Cook County and Cook County Forest Preserve District Boards.
Through this site I hope to provide you with valuable information about our Cook County government. The 2nd district covers a large area in Chicago, and encompasses portions of the 18 wards throughout the City of Chicago. To find your County Commissioner; as well your local, state and federal officials, please see: Civic Footprint.
A Message from the Commissioner
The needs of our community have never been greater; however, I wake up each day feeling blessed to be able to serve as your Cook County Commissioner. I approach this job with one goal, and that is to serve you by ensuring that the communitys concerns are taken into consideration when Cook County makes business decisions.
I come face-to-face with community residents and business constituents on a regular basis. This allows me to obtain unfiltered information about how Cook County decisions will or have impacted their lives. It affords me a very clear view about how Cook County budget cuts, layoffs and service reductions impact senior citizens who depend on the pharmacy operations; uninsured families who are desperate for medical care; working parents of public school children who are abruptly carted off to a juvenile detention center; employees who are laid off just shy of the years needed to retire; and businesses who are forced to reduce their work force to offset the rising cost of health plans or tax increases, etc.
As most of you know, I dont stop there. I actually get out and visit with County hospitals, clinics, juvenile detention centers, and local businesses. This allows me to weigh the recommendations presented to me and to prepare to engage in constructive dialogues with other County Commissioners, or other elected officials, etc. This approach has earned us, and I do mean "us", the reputation for being serious about enabling constituents in the 2nd District; and enabling County government by offering practical solutions that benefit all Cook County residents.
If we have learned but one thing during last years elections it is this - people are sick of political wrangling and government mismanagement and they want to see a "change". I am committed to enabling constituents and Cook County government by being proactively engaged in effecting "change".
