The Youth Summit is an annual event held each spring. Approximately 150 students from high schools in the 2nd district attend each year. These students are either in their Junior or Senior year and are preparing for the transition to an undergraduate education. The students are greeted by a panel of speakers. The speakers are generally individuals from a similar background as the students that have overcome the same obstacles the students face and flourished as adults in a variety of professions. Past speakers have included NBA Player Linton Johnson, doctors, lawyers, entrepreneurs, and many more. The speakers begin by introducing themselves and talking about what they do and what they went through to become successful. The speakers discuss peer pressures, motivation, goals, and continuing education. Their presentations are followed by a question and answer session. Additionally, speakers stay and have lunch with the students to entertain questions in a more informal letter. The goal of the summit is to inspire the students to continue their studies and follow their dreams. By exposing students to professional individuals just like them we hope to motivate each student. Transportation and lunch are provided.
