Reform Is Alive And Well
After months of in-depth analysis the Cook County Board of Commissioners passed the Contract Management Ordinance, on July 2, 2009. The ordinance was introduced by Cook County Commissioner Robert Steele, 2nd District, and is aimed at improving contract oversight on Cook County contracts over $1.0M.
Reducing Government Waste
Commissioner Steele describes the ordinance as, “a response to public outcries to reduce waste, across all levels of government. The Cook County Board saw this as an opportunity to demonstrate that we are responsible fiscal stewards and contrary to popular belief, we do not shy away from belt-tightening”.
The need for contract oversight has never been greater, and in passing the Contract Management Ordinance Cook County Board has demonstrated sensitivity toward tax payer concerns. Modeled after industry best practices, Cook County’s Contract Management Ordinance creates an acquisition process that is cohesive from end-to-end, and has been adopted by 50+ cities and states, and more recently the federal government.
